**Brazil, 2025** — Hanna Tools, a Brazilian precision machining solutions company, announces the consolidation of the HR® modular reaming system as a global reference for bore finishing in the automotive, aerospace, energy, and oil & gas sectors.

## A paradigm shift in reaming

The HR® system was conceived by Daniel Cabral around a single uncommon premise: an operator must be able to change the cutting insert in under 25 seconds, without any external presetting equipment, and without re-referencing the machine's zero point (ISO 16090-1). The cutting head seats in the same position with a positioning repeatability of ≤ 3 µm — directly on the machine, on the shop floor.

This philosophy eliminates dependence on a presetter, reduces machine downtime, and democratises access to results that previously required a dedicated toolroom infrastructure.

## Real-world case: automotive connecting rod

On an automotive connecting rod machining line, the HR® system was applied to the small-end bore finishing operation. Results achieved:

- **Cylindricity:** ≤ 3 µm
- **Bore tolerance:** ≤ 2 µm dimensional deviation
- **Process stability:** 2,000 consecutive parts machined without any adjustment or scheduled head replacement
- **Insert change:** performed at the machine, no preset required, in under 25 seconds

The results demonstrate that the HR® system sustains H6/H7 class tolerances in real production volumes — with no process drift across the batch.

## ESG impact: tungsten and cobalt

Cemented carbide (tungsten carbide with a cobalt binder) is the primary consumable input in conventional reaming tools. Tungsten and cobalt are classified as critical minerals by multiple regulatory agencies, with geographically concentrated supply chains subject to geopolitical risk.

The HR® system reduces carbide consumption by up to **85%** compared to full-head integral solutions, by renewing only the insert as the consumable component. This translates into an estimated Scope 3 carbon footprint reduction of up to **90%** for the reaming tool item — without compromising performance.

## Full coverage: HR0 to HR9

The system covers diameters from **18.6 mm to 140.6 mm** across ten families (HR0 to HR9), compatible with HSK, SK, BT, and Capto interfaces. Every family shares the same preset-free insert-change mechanism.
