Fine boring
Precision boring operation with an adjustable single-point tool, used for tolerances below IT6.
Fine boring (also known as finish boring or micro-boring) uses a tool with a single edge and a micrometric radial adjustment mechanism. Unlike reaming, it allows for adjusting the final diameter in tenths or hundredths of a millimeter during the tool's life.
When to prefer fine boring
- Non-standard holes (custom Ø)
- Tolerances tighter than H6
- Cylindricity below 2 µm
When to prefer modular reaming
- Ø within catalog standards
- H7/H8 Tolerance
- High production — reaming is faster and requires no presetting
